Who helps shape and sustain the work?
CSAW works alongside youth, survivors, families, schools, organizations, public agencies, and prevention partners to understand local priorities, connect existing strengths, and build the relationships and capacity that help prevention take root and last.
Community engagement helps shape the work itself. Local knowledge, lived experience, and sustained partnership influence the questions we ask, the approaches that fit a place, and what communities need to carry prevention forward.
Building Prevention Through Partnership
Lane County Violence Prevention Coalition
The Lane County Violence Prevention Coalition brings organizations and community partners together to strengthen coordinated primary prevention across Lane County. The coalition connects efforts addressing domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, and identity-based violence while working toward communities where safety, respect, belonging, and inclusion can grow.
CSAW participates in the coalition by supporting asset mapping, strengthening connections among community organizations, and bringing research, prevention learning, and youth perspectives into shared work. The partnership creates opportunities to identify existing strengths and resources, learn across organizations, and build a more connected approach to prevention.
This kind of coalition-building reflects an important part of CSAW’s approach: prevention is stronger when communities can connect what already exists, identify what is missing, and learn together over time.
Connecting Oregon’s Prevention Ecosystem
Mapping Assets for Prevention (MAP) Oregon
CSAW partners with Prevent Child Abuse Oregon and Our Children Oregon on MAP Oregon, a statewide effort to better understand and strengthen Oregon’s prevention ecosystem through community voice and cross-sector collaboration.
MAP Oregon brings together perspectives from youth, families, community organizations, and local prevention leaders to identify existing strengths, connections, gaps, and opportunities across the state.
The resulting work highlights the importance of relationships, sustainable funding, accessible resources, and locally driven strategies in building a stronger and more connected approach to prevention.
MAP Oregon reflects a core principle of CSAW’s community engagement work: people closest to their communities hold knowledge that is essential to understanding what prevention infrastructure already exists and what is needed next.
Connecting Campus and Community
Voices of Change for Child Safety
Voices of Change for Child Safety is a student-led University of Oregon organization that creates opportunities for students to contribute to violence prevention and child safety efforts connected to CSAW’s broader work.
Voices develops resources shaped for student audiences, raises awareness about interpersonal violence and prevention, and helps connect university students with opportunities to learn from and contribute to community-based prevention efforts.
The organization reflects one way CSAW connects university resources, student leadership, and community prevention work while creating space for emerging advocates to build knowledge and experience.

Community Knowledge Shapes What Comes Next
Community engagement helps CSAW understand what is already working, where gaps remain, how prevention approaches need to adapt, and which questions deserve further attention.
What we learn through coalitions, community partnerships, and shared work feeds back into CSAW’s research and prevention efforts. Community knowledge helps shape what we study, what we try, how we adapt, and what we learn next.
Youth perspectives are an important part of that process. CSAW is working to create more consistent opportunities for young people to help shape the questions we ask, the approaches we develop, and the ways we understand childhood safety and wellbeing.
